Prof. Sung Jae Lee died on 29th of November, 2009 at the age of 85 from a chronic disease in Seoul, Korea. He was born in Icheon, Kyunggi province in December 16, 1924. He studied composition at Seoul National University and University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, Austria. He was a professor at Seoul National University, dean of college of music, SNU and college of music, Suwon University, and chairman of Arts Council Korea (1993). He organized composers association called “Contemporary Music Society in Seoul” and served as a chairman from 1958 to 1974. Prof. Lee also was a founding member, chairman (1990-1994), and honorary member (2006) of Asian Composers League where he showed his passion for exchange of music with diverse cultural backgrounds. He established ACL-Korea in 1974 and was a chairman for 17 years. He is survived by his wife Sun Kim (ex-president of Consumers Korea) and his three sons, Jong Geon (living in abroad), Jong Jin (conductor), and Jong Seo (architect). The funeral was held at Seoul National University Hospital at 9:00 AM on December 2, 2009. Sung Jae Lee was a man who loved music and people. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and colleagues while his music remains with us all the time.
