ACL Special Event - Tokyo, October 2010 - Calls for scores PDF Print E-mail
The Japan Federation of Composers (JFC) has confirmed that they will host an ACL Special Festival in Tokyo from 1st to 6th October 2010.

The festival will last for 6 days with 2 orchestral concerts, a choral concert and some chamber music concerts. There will be no General Assembly nor Country
Report Sessions. Therefore it will be an ACL special festival only, not a normal ACL Conference and Festival.

Below are the Calls for Scores. Note that these may only be submitted by official member countries of ACL.

CALLS FOR SCORES

1) Children's Concert
During the 2010 Festival in Tokyo, the Tokyo University of the Arts (or Geidai) will have a concert for children. And they are also researching the topic of Children Songs in Asian Countries. The JFC would like ACL national sections to send them music scores of traditional or modern children songs which are popular among children, and music textbook for elementary schools (8-year-old to 10-year-old).

2) Orchestral works with voice
JFC is considering to have the festival’s opening concert (on 1st Oct 2010) featuring orchestral works with vocal. Therefore, they call for scores from ACL sections. The duration of these pieces can be within 3 to 15 minutes. For example, it can be an opera aria or a song with orchestra, etc. If the composer/ACL section can send a singer to the festival to perform the piece, JFC will cover 2 nights of accommodation for the singer.

3) Orchestral works less than 15 minutes (Standard orchestra: 3333/4331/T+3/Hp/14-12-10-8-6). The concert will be given by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra at Bunkyo Civic Main hall on 3rd October 2010. A selected composer must have some experience in conducting professional orchestra as the composer will be asked to conduct his/her own piece in this concert.

4) Piano pieces for children (solo or 4 hands; within 3 minutes). The pieces must be easy enough for elementary school children to perform. Playing
inside the piano is prohibited. The organizer prefers a composer to perform the piece by himself/herself. In case of a 4-hand piece, the composer shall
perform the 2nd part. The concert will be held at Bunkyo Civic Small Hall on 3rd October 2010.

5) Chamber music for string quartet and Japanese instruments, with 8 maximum performers and 15 minutes maximum duration. The concert will be held on
5th October at So-gaku-do Hall in Ueno, Tokyo.

6) Works for Japanese instrument(s) - from solo to big ensemble, with 15 minutes of maximum duration. Arrangement of pieces originally written for
Chinese & other folk instruments are acceptable. The concert will be held on 6th October at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space.

7) Works of 3 to 8 minutes for female chorus, with or without piano accompaniment. The conductor will be Fujio Furuhashi. The concert will be
held on 4th October 2010 at Hokutopia Sakura Hall.

8) Works of 3 to 8 minutes for a cappella mixed chorus (3S/3A/3T/3B) or a cappella vocal ensemble of minimum 3 singers. The conductor will be Ryuta
Nishikawa. The concert will be held on 4th October 2010 at Hokutopia Sakura Hall.
